Black Bear Walking Pin M033
Often simply called the “Blackie,” the Black Bear is an iconic North American mammal, known for its strength and adaptability. Ursus americanus is widely distributed throughout the forests and woodlands of North America, and Black Bears are affectionately known as “Bruins,” a nod to that scientific name. Their coats come in a wide range of colors — black, brown, cinnamon, and even a rare bluish hue — so despite the name, not all Black Bears are black. They share a family connection with other bear species like the Grizzly Bear and the Polar Bear. Resourceful and intelligent, Black Bears keep a versatile diet of berries, nuts, fish, and small mammals, and they are skilled climbers and swimmers, adapting to various habitats. For much of the year they are solitary animals, though family groups can be seen during mating and rearing seasons. Typically shy and avoidant of humans, they may still be encountered where food is plentiful. These magnificent creatures hold a special place in North American wildlife, embodying both the beauty and the wildness of the continent’s natural landscapes.

Craft & construction
Built to stay put. Our pins have two posts and clutches which hold it flat and ensure a spin-free application wherever you display it. It solves a common pin complaint. The 1/4-inch steel tacks are long enough to pass through most fabrics, about 1/4 inch, yet short enough to sit flush. And each clutch seats into a small groove on the post with a firm, satisfying click — haptic feedback that tells you it's locked, and a detail cheaper pins skip.
Hand-painted, marine-grade finish. Each hand-painted piece is carefully painted by an artisan right in our studio in Port Gamble, WA. The proprietary multistep process includes priming each piece followed by meticulous painting by hand in acrylics with fine detail work to bring the item to life with incredible detail. The final step adds a coating of marine-grade epoxy — a hard, clear finish that protects the artwork so our product can be used on a boat, outside, or other conditions highly resistant to fading or wear.
Certified American pewter. The antiqued finish is completely safe to touch — and the craft behind it has been refined over three decades. Each batch of pewter that arrives at our shop in Port Gamble, WA from an American supplier comes with a lab test showing the material is lead free.
