The Tapir, often referred to as the "Living Fossil" due to its ancient lineage, is a remarkable and enigmatic creature. Known for its unique appearance, including a flexible snout-like nose called a proboscis, the tapir is sometimes affectionately called the "Jungle Gardener" for its role in seed dispersal. This herbivorous mammal is closely related to horses and rhinoceroses, forming part of the odd-toed ungulate group. Found in various parts of the world, including Central and South America and Southeast Asia, tapirs are essential to their ecosystems, contributing to forest regeneration. Tapirs are solitary and nocturnal, using their strong sense of smell and excellent swimming abilities to navigate their lush habitats. Despite their large size, they are elusive and gentle creatures, often associating with water bodies to escape predators. The tapir's cryptic coloration and solitary nature make them a symbol of the wild and a captivating species to study and protect.

Craft & construction

Powerful magnets that actually hold. Our magnet strengths vary by design. Smaller magnets pull 3–5 lbs — enough to hold to a refrigerator with more than a single sheet of paper or photo between. The heavier premium magnets use an even stronger 6–7 lb magnet, and slim designs use two smaller magnets where one won't fit. Our magnets are bonded in our studio by an artisan with an industrial-strength adhesive to ensure they will never come loose.

Hand-painted, marine-grade finish. Each hand-painted piece is carefully painted by an artisan right in our studio in Port Gamble, WA. The proprietary multistep process includes priming each piece followed by meticulous painting by hand in acrylics with fine detail work to bring the item to life with incredible detail. The final step adds a coating of marine-grade epoxy — a hard, clear finish that protects the artwork so our product can be used on a boat, outside, or other conditions highly resistant to fading or wear.

Certified American pewter. The antiqued finish is completely safe to touch — and the craft behind it has been refined over three decades. Each batch of pewter that arrives at our shop in Port Gamble, WA from an American supplier comes with a lab test showing the material is lead free.

Ready to give. Every item arrives attached to a backing card and sealed in plastic — clean, protected, and presentable as a gift the moment it arrives.
